Pinewood Derby

Lately Bryce seems to think he has 2 beds...his own, and ours.  Most nights he ends up in our bed around 3 a.m. or so.  Stinker!  On this night he said he had 3 beds.  He included this tub as a bed...

Goodnight Bryce

Are you comfy?

I received these adorable pictures of Thomas' first haircut!

Doesn't look so sure...

A comb!  It's the simple things!
Last weekend the boys had their first basketball games.  Zane is on a new team and Mason is on the same team as last year.  Their first games were at the exact same time, at different locations.  So Matt went with Zane and I went with Mason.  Zane was THRILLED to get #35 - Eric Hosmer's number!

After basketball we headed to Iowa for our final Christmas gathering with the Beggs family.  It was the first time we had seen Jack's house since he added on and put the basement underneath.  It is awesome!  It was perfect for all of us to gather and enjoy some family time!  We also celebrated many of the little ones' birthdays since they either just passed or are coming up soon!

This weekend was busy!  First we began with Mason's basketball game.

Then we had the Pinewood Derby.  Matt and Zane were excited, but didn't know what to expect.  This year's car was blue again.  Pretty predictable!  :)  Zane ended up getting second place in his class and also second in the finals for the whole pack.  Only first place goes on to districts so we won't be doing that this year.  Matt, of course, is blaming himself and already figured out what he did wrong and how he could have won, but Zane and I are thankful to not have to go to districts.  It's a super long day!

Putting on the final touches the morning of the derby
Ready to race!

Bryce had to sit on Zane's lap to watch!
Second place!
Zane 2nd place, Tanner 3rd place!
After all of the scouts race, there is an open class, where anyone can enter, and there are no rules.  Mason entered the same car he entered last year, one of Zane's old ones, and Bryce entered Zane's car from this year.  Last year Mason came just short of winning (another car had a wheel fall off and went into his lane) and he was so upset about it.  There is a traveling trophy that goes to the winner each year.  The rule is you have to add something to it, and bring it back the following year.  Well, this year he won that darn trophy and now we have to keep it for a year.  Ugh!  It's taller than Matt and just hideous!  He's pretty proud and excited so we'll find a discreet corner...

With everything going on, we had to miss Thomas' first birthday party.  We were sad to miss it and hope we get to see him soon!  Thankfully they sent me some pictures to enjoy!

I'm one!

Such a cutie!

"Happy Birthday Thomas!"

Lots of presents!

Vroom vroom!

Playing with one of the toys we gave him!
We actually had to leave Zane's Pinewood Derby early to get to his game.  Matt and the young 2 boys stayed there and I went with Zane to his game.  Fourth grade basketball is on a whole new level.  It's not easy for this mama to watch.  They can foul, foul out, get called for EVERYHING that they didn't used to, and can steal the ball from each other.  I had my hands covering my eyes some of the time and had to stop myself from yelling!  I don't like this and I know it won't get easier!

After a busy weekend I'm glad to have another day to relax at home!  I started therapy on my ankle last week.  I am currently going 3 times per week.  Makes it hard to get much done in the evenings when I'm at therapy for an hour and a half.  I'm hoping this speeds up the healing process.  I'm getting better...just not as quickly as I'd like!

Happy 4th Birthday Bryce!!!

I realized that I had forgotten to post these pictures a couple of weeks ago!  Bryce had a Christmas program at school.  He looked so grownup in his "dress" clothes!  His teacher told me that right before they walked in, he leaned over to her and said, "I'm scared."  I could tell he wasn't too sure because he didn't do any singing, but at least sat there nicely.  He did participate when they had the sticks and had to hit them to the beat.  However...he made up his own music by rubbing them together.  It looked like he was trying to start a fire!

Cutie patootie!

His teacher sent me this picture of him enjoying a birthday treat!
Matt only went in to work for part of the day Monday, then stayed home with us the rest of the week.  This is the first year he did this and I must say I hope it can happen every year!  Maybe next year he can stay home with us and I won't be hurt so we can do more things!  Mason decided he wanted to go to work with Matt, so he loaded some of this things up and went.  Matt said he was under his desk coloring, when all of a sudden his feet got cold.  Mason realized there was a space heater under there and he turned it to face him!

Mason LOVES pictures...NOT!
Most of break we spent at home so I could stay off of my ankle.  We did go to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie which was really good, and on New Year's Day we took them to Power Play.  I didn't get to participate much, but the boys had a blast!

All my boys racing each other at Power Play!
Saturday was Bryce's 4th birthday!  He was so excited!  When I woke him up on Saturday, he said "yesterday I was 3, and now I'm 4!"  He was just so happy that it was his birthday, he told everyone.  Every time someone texted me or posted a wish on Facebook, I'd tell him, and he'd just grin, say "thank you" and then once he said "How do they know it's my birthday?"  He also said "I want to go to school so I can tell my friends I'm 4!"  We were heading to Des. Moines for the extended Bunch Family Christmas, so we did presents before leaving.

Happy birthday Bryce!

When we got to Des. Moines it was lunchtime, so we decided to take Bryce to The Machine Shed.  As soon as we pulled in and he saw tractors, he was pumped!  Then we went in and saw the gift shop...with a section containing tractors...and he wanted them ALL!

Good food!!!
The boys had so much fun swimming, playing games, and seeing family!  I don't think Mason was too fond of us singing "The Twelve Days of Christmas," but we do it every year and this year it had more meaning in memory of Uncle Daryl.  He was always our emcee and led us in this song every single year.

Grandma playing with the boys

This was a good find...Bryce loves putting together and taking apart this truck!

Mason loved playing this game with Tim
Today we met Adam and Bethany at Flying Horse (Buffalo Wild Wings) for Bryce's birthday lunch.  He wanted to go there so they would shout "Happy Birthday" to him!  This was the card he got, which he LOVED and showed everyone:

When you open and close the card, the finger goes in and out of the nose!

Announcing Bryce's birthday to the whole restaurant

Thanks to everyone who helped Bryce have a great birthday!  He loved every moment of it!

Now...back to reality tomorrow.  The boys have school.  I have a work day.  Our morning might be interesting...we have slept in until 8-9 every day of break!  Even though we had a full 2 weeks, it seemed to go so fast, and I got NOTHING done.  I want a do-over...without an injury!  Hoping for an easy transition back to school for all of us!
